Now one problem of a picture in a blog post is that it’s going to be pretty small.

Still, if you want to make big prints it’s better to have a large original – this one will come to about 40 megapixels.

There’s also the way many cameras are designed to take rectangular images.

If you were to find this image in its natural habitat so to speak, and photographed it in a conventional way you’d have to crop it and go with a smaller image.

Using a substitution technique such as this one, the main subject can be photographed separately in vertical format so that it can be as big as possible.

A further advantage is that the image can be placed to the left, the right or in the middle, so that several different layouts are possible.

Of course some of these points will be irrelevant when 40 or 50 megapixels are standard.
